Getting the most out of a shopping trip depends mostly on the activities that are done and the attractions that are seen while visiting a new place.  There are a number of popular activities to take part in when shopping in Denver, everything from touring the United States Mint to being a spectator at any of the local professional sporting events.  One of the most popular things to do though is to go shopping, and one of the best locations to do that is at the famous 16th Street Mall.

Denver's 16th Street Mall first opened in 1982 and was designed by the legendary architect firm of I.M. Pei & Associates.  This open air mall has expanded over the years and it currently stretches just over 1.25 miles long.  Through-traffic is closed to this portion of 16th street so that mall visitors can walk about freely as they criss-cross the area visiting one shop after another.  The city operates a free shuttle bus called MallRide that weary shoppers can use to ride up and down the length of the outdoor mall.  During certain times of the week other methods of travel are available too including pedicabs and horse drawn carriages.  Along with the shopping opportunities found there, the 16th Street Mall also offers a number of eateries, fun attractions, and even a regular flow of street performers.  There is even wireless internet (WiFi) service available along the entire mall.

Some of the biggest signature stores in the mall can be found in the Denver Pavilions.  Here shoppers will be able to browse and purchase from the likes of NikeTown, Maggiano's Little Italy, the Hard Rock Cafe, and Virgin Records Megastore.  There is also a bowling alley and fifteen screen movie theater located here.  Tabor Center is home to popular eateries The Cheesecake Factory and the ESPN Zone, among many other attractions.  Aside from these nationally known brands, the 16th Street Mall also caters to those looking for something a little more unique or even local with a number of individually owned smaller businesses too.  When it is time for a bite to eat, visitors to the mall should not forget to take the opportunity to sample some of the wonderful foods offered by the street vendors that line the mall as well.  When it comes to both shopping and dining in the Denver area, there isn't a place that can compete with the 16th Street Mall.

The mall is designed with maximizing the enjoyment of the shopping public as its first goal.  There are no bikes, skateboards, or scooters allowed on the mall except for on Sundays.  The free shuttle service can be a valuable resource that visitors to the downtown Denver area should take advantage of.  There are a number of other attractions within easy walking distance of the 16th Street Mall including the Pepsi Center, City Lights Pavilion, Denver Performing Arts Complex, Colorado Convention Center, and even Mile High Stadium.

Attractions in the city of Denver open the person up to a whole world of new experiences.  After the zoo, the Rocky Mountains, concerts, conventions, professional sporting events, and all the outdoor recreation possibilities that the area has to offer though, sometimes it is nice to just take a day and spend it shopping and dining out in an area that really offers a true taste of the city.  The 16th Street Mall is just such an area and can be a fun and entertaining part of any trip to the city of Denver.
