Denver Is A Sports Fans Dream Come True

Denver, Colorado is one of the most popular destinations in the Rocky Mountain region.  There are a number of reasons for this including its proximity to the Rocky Mountains and all of the outdoor beauty and recreational opportunities they provide, the city's dining and nightlife opportunities, the historical importance and unique history the community has, the wonderful shopping opportunities that are present there, and more.  One of the most popular activities and attractions the city has that both residents and visitors to Denver enjoy year in and year out though are the large number of sports teams and sporting contests that are held there.  Denver has a long and successful history as a sports town and sports fans visiting or living in the city have a great many options to choose from when deciding what to watch and where to go.

Some of the many options for sports fans in Denver include:

Denver Broncos
One of the more popular teams in the National Football League, the Denver Broncos play at Invesco Field at Mile High and are known around the league for having some of the most loyal and rabid fans.  Some of Denver's best sports memories involve the Broncos in the late 1970s when their Orange Crush defense made them famous and the 1990s when the team was lead by the great John Elway.

Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets play an exciting brand of basketball and do a great job entertaining their fans at the Pepsi Center.  The team started out in the American Basketball Association, but have had a number of successful years since joining the NBA too.

Colorado Rockies
Still a fairly new team in Major League Baseball, the Colorado Rockies came to town in 1993 and fulfilled a long held dream by the city of landing a big league franchise.  The Rockies best year came in 2007 when the team made it all the way to the World Series.

Colorado Avalanche
The NHL's Nordiques had played in Quebec City, Quebec since 1972 until they moved to in 1995 to the city of Denver.  The team experienced immediate success, rewarding their new fans with Stanley Cup victories in their first season in Denver and then again in 2001.

There are also a number of other professional sports teams in Denver that have loyal followings and have experienced a good amount of success.  While these teams play in leagues that are not quite as popular as the major sports teams in town, they still play hard and put on a great show.

Colorado Crush
One of the more popular non-Major League level professional teams in Denver are the Colorado Crush who compete in the Arena Football League.  The team came into the league as an expansion franchise in 2003 with Denver Broncos legend John Elway as one of the owners.  In their first season the team would win only two games, but in 2005 they would bring an Arena Football League Championship to the city of Denver.  The team plays its home games in the Pepsi Center.

Colorado Mammoth
The Colorado Mammoth play in the National Lacrosse League, and are another of the local sports teams that calls the Pepsi Center its home.  The team came to Denver in 2003, lead the league in attendance in 2004, and won the NLL Championship in 2006.

Colorado Rapids
The Colorado Rapids are a Major League Soccer team that plays at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, a suburb of Denver.  The team was established in 1995 and made appearances in two cup finals, in 1997 and then again in 1999.

Denver Bulldogs
Representing the city of Denver in the United States Australian Football League is the Denver Bulldogs who were founded in 1998.  The team has been incredibly successful over their first decade in existence, winning six national championships and year in and year out prove themselves to be one of the best teams in the league.

Denver Dynamite
Founded in 2008, the Denver Dynamite play in the Professional Arena Soccer League and are one of the newest professional teams to compete in the city of Denver.  The team played their first season at the Denver Sports Center.

Denver Outlaws
The Denver Outlaws began their existence as a 2006 expansion team in Major League Lacrosse.  The team plays at Invesco Field and in their brief history have won two division championships already.

College athletics in Denver and the immediate area are also somewhat popular and include the schools of Colorado Christian University, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and the University of Denver.

Sports fans from around the Rocky Mountain region have flocked to the city of Denver for decades to take part in the sports culture and life that is available there.  Residents of Denver take great pride in their sports teams, and with good reason too.  The sports teams of Denver have enjoyed a number of accomplishments, including some of them even winning the championship titles of their leagues.  The city of Denver offers teams and competitions to excite almost any kind of sports fan.  Fans of sports as popular as football and baseball have a number of options, while fans of more obscure sports like lacrosse and Australian football even have the chance to get out and see their favorite sporting events in person.  Whether a resident or a traveler, Denver offers more than enough sporting events to appease even the most discriminating sports fan.
