Lakewood: A Center Of Culture In The Denver Region

lakewood-colorado_400Lakewood is one of the largest incorporated cities in the Colorado region, in terms of population. It lies just to the west of Denver, within Jefferson County. The Lakewood area first began to be developed in 1889. The population grew steadily as the settlement expanded, but it was not until 1969 that Lakewood was incorporated as a city.

Residents of Lakewood benefit from access to a wide range of different recreational facilities, including four recreation centers, two golf courses, a selection of community swimming pools, a community center and a wide variety of art galleries. The city of Denver is located on the South Platte River Valley to the east of the Rocky Mountains. Denver has excellent transportation links to the rest of the region. Bow Mar: A Lakeside Community

bowmar-colorado_300Bow Mar developed originally as an agricultural area that supplied the city of Denver as it grew. Two of the pioneering farmers who settled in the area were John Marston and Joseph Bowles. It is from the surnames of these two farmers that the area got its modern day name. It is still possible to see the farm that once belonged to the Bowles family, just to the south of the town of Bow Mar.

During the 1940s and 1950s, the continued growth of Denver generated a need for additional housing that surpassed the need for locally produced food from the Bow Mar area. Lone Tree: A Thriving City on the Outskirts of Denver
